Cincinnati: Cool Neighbourhoods and a Historic Hotel

Walking up the hotel’s impressive Grand Staircase, I’m amazed by the breathtaking sight that greets me at the top – intricately painted ceiling murals, opulent fixtures and rare Brazilian rosewood, all beautifully maintained from the hotel’s opening in 1931. The lobby is a flurry of activity, with excited guests planning their weekend adventures. A charter member of Historic Hotels of America – an organization that recognizes the United States’ finest historic hotels – the hotel has received countless awards and accolades for its exceptional hospitality, French Art Deco architecture and unparalleled food and beverage. In fact, the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza has become a popular wedding venue and is hosting three weddings the night of my visit!

After checking into my stylish and newly renovated hotel room, I head to Fountain Square, just across from the hotel. The bustling square features casual and fine dining restaurants, an exciting nightlife and tons of fun entertainment options. It actually hosts more 300 events throughout the year! After exploring Fountain Square, I check out The Banks entertainment district nearby. With beautiful views of the Ohio River and neighboring Kentucky, the new development offers lots of cool restaurants and bars, several bike trails and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Located between the Reds and Bengals stadiums, The Banks is the perfect place to grab a drink after a game, enjoy live music at one of its scenic outdoor spaces or indulge in a delicious meal.

Another area worth exploring is Over-the-Rhine, or OTR, Cincinnati’s oldest and most historic neighborhood. The eclectic district has an energy all its own, with classic storefronts hosting trendy new shops, bars, boutiques and restaurants. The locally owned businesses are packed with hip young couples and families enjoying a Saturday afternoon. It’s a fascinating mix of old and new, and a definite highlight of my trip to Cincinnati.

After a fun day exploring the city, I retire to the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza to indulge in a sumptuous meal. Orchids at Palm Court, rated as one of the top 10 restaurants in the United States by Open Table, does not disappoint. The incredible restaurant features locally sourced ingredients, an award-winning culinary team and exceptional service. After being seated by a friendly hostess, I’m treated to a meal fit for a queen, enjoying what might be the best seared scallops and grilled pork belly I’ve ever tasted! After dinner, happy and satisfied, I grab a cozy seat at the Bar at Palm Court for some signature cocktails and live jazz music in a beautiful setting.

With its historic charm, delicious cuisine, and cool, modern vibe, up-and-coming Cincinnati is quickly becoming a destination not to be missed. Come and see for yourself!
